The big one, originally uploaded by spcummings.

Okay, now it's on. The D.O.T. is going to close I-80 and I-380 from Iowa City to Waterloo. People are reporting the Department of Homeland Security is leaving messages on their phones, advising them to go to their closest shelters. Perhaps it hasn't snowed enough in Iowa lately?

There too, huh?

The shaky/blurry feel adds to the sense of panic. Either you or that van driver has totally lost it and it racing into the maw of the storm.

I think they are getting it worse than us.

Or this is the last view you see before you pass out or die.

It's what you see on the passenger side of a Geo Prizm on the way to the grocery store.

It's not so bad this morning, fortunately. The news is reporting the rapture, but I'm still planning on going in to work.

3 people off the road this morning on my commute. The 4-8" we were supposed to get turned into an inch of sleet. Slippery but not treacherous.

And tomorrow - 50.

You aren't one of those people who raids the grocery store as though you're going to be snowed in for weeks, even though the streets will be cleared in less than a day, are you?

Not us, but when we did hit the store, the staff let us know it'd been crazy all day. This being Iowa, perhaps, a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables were available, while Tombstone pizzas and Wonder Bread were not. I don't buy either of the latter items. Don't get me wrong, I love my home state, but some consumer behaviors are fairly predictable.
