The westwardly view from the hospital. The University of Iowa campus has but one visible consistency, an ever-present construction crane. One of the main objectives of this institution is. "Always Be Building", which can easily morph into "Build first, plan later." The bubble to the right is the practice football field, a coach Hayden Fry-era perk. Sweet Home Coralville is in the distance.

All large medical/nursing institutions are built entirely without any sense that the future exists. The solve today's need today and worry about tomorrow tomorrow, even if that means constantly designing yourself into a corner.
Actually, that's how most of the world works.
In the vein of your shot from 1/1: perhaps this same shot, only taken at night, also would look trendy & urbane.
I certainly agree the world tends to work that way. It seems here new wings or pavillions are built, then stay empty for a while. However, that's not to say intense planning isn't going on behind the scenes. The hospital has waited twelve years to complete a new main entrance. It's taken that long to relocate all the different departments and offices that are affected.
I suppose it would look more urbane at night, but most of the lights give off an amber glow, giving it an airport feel.
I'm not saying that a lot of work isn't being done - just that it's freakishly short-sighted.
High-pressure sodium lights give off that lovely orange glow.
Nice photo, but I have to say Iowa City gives me the hebee-jebees.
T-clog, if it's because you are from Ames, let me clarify: it's just a school rivalry.
